Sorry for the serious lack of posts recently! Myself and Walt made it out striper fishing yesterday evening with our buddy Dan. We hit the upper DE bay after work and we were setup and fishing at 4:45. We caught the last hour of the outgoing and were getting bites right away. Had a few swing and misses to start, but Walt connected on a nice fish about 40 minutes after getting setup. You could tell from the start this was a great fish and after a nice fight I slid the net under a nice 40" fish. Unfortunately this fish was in the "throwback slot" Delaware implemented last year (any stripers below 28" or between 37" and 44" must be released) and while it stinks to not take this fish for the table, it does feel good to let the big ones go and breed.
Shortly after this I hooked up with a nice fish and passed the rod to Dan. We then slid the net under a nice 38" fish which was again in the throwback slot. We revived this fish and reset the lines. Right after that the tide died on us. We had a couple more bites, but no hook ups. We waited out the change of the tide and when the boat finally swung around fished another hour of the incoming. We still marked a bunch of fish but were not getting the bites. Dan caught a catfish and we had a few more bumps, but no more fish for us. We quit right at dark as the wind and cold temps were starting to get to us.
All in all it was a great night on the upper DE bay and we caught and released 2 nice stripers. The 40" fish was Walt's biggest to date!
