Adam Bomb Sport Fishing - Striper Reports (And Drum!) - March 22nd, 23rd & 24th, 2012

The following fishing report is from Captain Adam Crouthamel of Adam Bomb Sport Fishing. Adam fishes the inshore waters around Cape May, NJ year round. He targets stripers, flounder, tog, sea bass, drum, cod and all other inshore species found around Cape May. I have personally fished with Adam multiple times and each trip was outstanding. Check out his website here for all his latest fishing reports, boat availability and Adam Bomb gear. You can also see Adam Bomb reports and open boat availability at The Bass Barn

We had Traci, Shawn, Greg, Bill, Ed, and Tom aboard today. We fished hard in rain, wind, and fog. The fish weren't overly cooperative today. However, the Landscapers Shawn and Traci saved us from the skunk! Shawn decided to let his nice 35" fish go about 10 feet from the boat when his leader broke, but Traci stepped up and bailed him out a few minutes later when we hooked up and boated a nice 35" fish for the table. I heard of a few here and couple there today, along with some skunks. These fish are making me crazy! You never know where they may eat or if they may eat!

Aboard this morning were Oleh, Peter, Dimitry, Ron, Estelle, and George. We went back to our lucky spot from the last couple days. We got set up, and after 45 minutes George hooks up and puts our first fish on the deck at 30". We anxiously await the next fish, but all we get are a couple half hearted bites. A while later, we make a move. Finding some awesome marks, we put the anchor down. A while later and no bites, we move again...more great marks. We set up, and don't see them and don't get a bite. The only thing I can think is that there are plenty of fish in the bay, but these extreme water temps have them cruising through. You just have to luck in to ones that want to eat!

In the afternoon, Dimitry, Mike, Nate, Chuck, Jim, and Ralph were aboard. We started where we fished yesterday, and bagged a short and a keeper. After a long wait with nothing, we made a move. Not seeing much, we made another move. We found fish swirling on top, so we decided to stop. On the anchor, they were swirling around the boat, but no bites. We waited them out, and Mike hooks up! Another keeper. Then, Jim hooks up...she comes unbuttoned! Next up is Ralph...he hooks up and puts another keeper in the boat! We didn't get another bite and it was near quitting time, so I started the motors and was prepping to take off when Chuck hooked up, but the hook pulled! At least we found a few that wanted to eat this afternoon. Thank goodness!

We departed mid morning today with Mike Mumper, Mike Jr., another Mike, Steve, and John. Seas were flat once again, but the fog was bad this morning. We made our way to the scene of yesterday's crime, got set up, and within a few minutes young Mike hooks up - a short bass. It's a start. Less than a minute after we release that fish, another Mike hooks up. This fish stayed deep, seemed big, and didn't run like a bass. I thought it was fighting like a drum, and when she popped up in the shallow water, my suspicion proved correct! Mike got the first drum of 2012 and it was a nice one!

John hooked up next. This fish fought more like a bass, but ANOTHER DRUM - this one a smaller, 15lb pup! Next up was Steve, and a NICE BASS!

Big Mike was next, and another quality bass!

Our steady pick turned HOT when the tide started horsing. We had a fish constantly hooked up, and several multiple hook-ups. At one point, the deck was covered with bass!

This is how it is supposed to be right now! I was just glad to have FINALLY found a good bite yesterday and today.

At the end of the trip, a limit of bass were in the box along with a few bonus fish for tags the guys had. We also had a couple drum in MARCH, which is unreal. However, with 60 plus degree water already, anything is possible! Hope it continues!
