Mid-Atlantic Fishing Report - 2/26/13 (DE, NJ, MD, PA)

I am going to start a weekly fishing report for the DE, NJ, PA, MD region this Spring and Summer. If you want to contribute any pictures or reports please send to dtmasportsman@yahoo.com

Freshwater
I have seen some reports from folks hitting the freshwater ponds and lakes in NJ and DE showing the fishing is heating up. Check out the freshwater reports section of The Bass Barn to see detailed reports. I am planning a trip on Saturday for my first freshwater trip of the year. We are going to fish a pond in south Delaware and hope to catch a few crappies for the table as well as bass and pickeral for fun.

As April approaches the spring trout stockings will begin in PA, DE, NJ and MD. Check the state's fish and wildlife department websites to see stocking schedules and fishing seasons.

Saltwater
As the fishing and temperatures heat up I will separate the saltwater reports into different categories of inshore, offshore and Delaware Bay. For now I will just keep it all under one category until more reports start coming in.

On Friday (March 1st) the striped bass season opens back up in NJ and while the water temps are still a bit cold for the Spring run to get under way there should still be a decent amount of resident fish around.

Old Inlet Bait and Tackle reports the Indian River Inlet area is pretty slow with cold water temperatures right now. As water temps creep up towards 45 degrees the striper fishing should get better and better.

The party boats out of NJ had good success catching black sea bass and porgies while the season for BSB was open. With the season coming to a close look for these boats to keep fishing for ling and cod.
