Mid-Atlantic Fishing Report! - 4-23-13 (DE, NJ, MD, PA)

Chesapeake Bay:

Anglers fishing the flats reported better fishing the past 2 days after extremely slow fishing last week.

The trophy striper trolling season started off slower than normal. Rough weather and slow fishing left many anglers disapointed. I was out on Sunday and trolled from Rock Hall to about 2 miles south of the BB and only had one knockdown but we lost that fish.

Fishing reports from Monday and Tuesday showed better fishing the last couple of days which is good news. Hopefully the bite turns on.

Anglers are still catching white perch and catfish in the tributaries and creeks leading to the bay.

Delaware Bay:

Striper fishing has been good up and down the bay. Anglers chunking with fresh bunker and clamming with fresh clams are reporting good action both in the upper and lower bay areas.

A few flounder have been caught in the Broadkill beach area on the DE side. Fishing should continue to improve as the water temps creep up.

Reports of black drum have also started to come in. This fishing should get better towards the full moon in May.

Inshore Ocean:

Tog fishing remained hot this week for boats able to get out.

Striper fishing is picking up "out front" Check out the striper reports from Captain Carl from Wet Dreams Sport Fishing. He has been nailing the stripers out of Sandy Hook, NJ. He has some open boat trips coming up this week if you are looking to get out.
Stripers are still being caught from the local inlets and back bays. Flounder have started to bite in DE and MD. I expect the flounder fishing to be good in NJ when the season opens as well.

Offshore Ocean:

Warm water eddies are pushing closer and closer and I wouldn't be suprised if the weather allows to see boats from OCMD, IRI DE and Cape May NJ make runs out to the canyons this week. Yellowfins, Bluefins and Makos should be in the warmer canyon eddies.

Also look for shark fishing to heat up as the water temps start to get warmer.

Freshwater:

Trout fishing is still great all over the region. I fished in PA last Thursday with a friend and we both easily caught our limit of rainbows and browns.

Pond and lake fisherman are still reporting good action on crappies, bass and pickeral.

Delaware River striper fishing are having good success on the lindsiders. Anglers are also reporting catching a lot of big catfish while fishing for stripers in the river.

Tight Lines,

Dave
