Mid-Atlantic Fishing Report! - 7-11-13 (DE, NJ, MD, PA)

Sorry for the lack of weekly reports recently. Been very busy, but will have these reports out weekly from now on.

Offshore Ocean:

Bluefins are being caught at all the popular inshore spots. The hot dog and Massey's have been the top producers. The hambone, chicken bone and sausages are all producing fish as well. WWWWB skirted ballyhoos have been big producers for bluefin, as well as spreader bars and daisy chains.

Yellowfins are also being caught mixed in with the bluefins at the inshore spots. Yellowfins are also being reported from the Washington Canyon up to the Hudson. The weather has made it hard for boats to reach the canyons recently, but when the weather breaks the fish are there. The big eye bite in the Washington has been phenomenal recently.

Mahi mahi are starting to show up in force. Boats are catching nice mahi inshore and out in the canyons. There have also been a couple reports of wahoo, blue marlin and white marlin caught out in the canyons. The white marlin bite should bust wide open any week now. Some nicer weather will help the boats find these fish a little easier.

Check out the recent fishing reports and open boat availability from Muff Diver Charters and Restless Lady Sport Fishing. .

Inshore Ocean:

Flounder and sea bass fishing has been very good on the inshore wrecks and reef sites off OCMD, DE and NJ. The flounder are being caught using big bucktails and strip baits while sea bass can be caught on clams, squid and shrimp.

Even though the thresher sharks have moved north, there are still lots of brown, duskies, spinners and hammer head sharks in the inshore waters which can provide great catch and release action for anglers looking for big fish to pull lots of drag.

Chesapeake Bay:

Live lining for stripers has been great up and down the bay recently. Charters are reporting limit catches in a matter of minutes when live lining for stripers.

Bottom fishing for croakers is still very good. White perch are also being caught in the rivers and creeks leading to the bay.

Bluefish are also around. Trolling and chumming are the best producers for bluefish.

Crabbing is spotty in the bay, but some days crabbers have put together very good catches.

Delaware Bay:

Unfortunately flounder fishing is still very slow in the DE bay. There is a good flounder bite in the back bays of NJ, DE and MD, but the DE bay is not producing many fish.

Small croakers are all over the DE bay. Many of these fish are too small to keep (less than 8"). There are some kingfish, sea trout and puffers still being caught in the bay as well.

Big brown sharks and sand tigers have moved into the bay. While many flounder fisherman complain about these sharks, they are fun to catch. Just be sure to release them all and do not take them out of the water. Any fresh cut or chunked bait will work for these sharks.

Freshwater:

We have reached the dog days of summer in terms of fresh water fishing. Many ponds are filled with lily pads and weeds making fishing more difficult, however using surface lures and weedless baits can still draw lots of strikes and catch good numbers of bass, pickerals and even crappies.

If you have any pictures or reports send them to dtmasportsman@yahoo.com so I can post them up!

Tight Lines,

Dave
