READING THE BEACH FOR STRUCTURE

Written by Jersey Joe on Sunday, October 13, 2013
I think the toughest part of surf fishing is reading the beach and figuring out where the fish will be. Here are a few things that I look for when walking the beach looking for a spot to set up.
  • -Any kind of surface action, birds or bait fish

  • -Lot's of clam shells on the beach

  • -Any points sticking out further than the rest of the beach

  • -Signs on the dunes or fences left by other fishermen

  • -Steeper drop offs from the beach to the water

  • -Patterns in tides and waves to find where sand bars

  •  and sloughs are located

  • -Any inlets, jetty's, or piers that may offer

  •  structure for fish

What do look for when searching for a spot to fish in the surf?
