Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report - 7/27/14

Myself and fellow M-A Sportsman author Walt went down to Rock Hall, MD yesterday with my dad and my father-in-law to go striper fishing.

We got to the ramp around 6:00am and dropped the boat in the water. After making our way to the Love Point area is some choppy conditions we put the lines over and started trolling a 6 rod spread of bucktail/spoon tandems. In less than 5 minutes we had the first fish on, unfortunately this fish wasn't much bigger than the bucktail it hit. Back in the water it went and we kept trolling towards the fleet of boats chumming off Love Point. We got to the fleet with no more bites so we decided to put the trolling rods away and start chumming. It was game on from the start with lots of short fish coming over the side. We did put two keepers in the box at 18.5" and 19" and lost one or two others that may have made the cut, but for the most part all the fish we caught were shorts.

After a couple of hours of catching all the short stripers we wanted we decided to switch it up and go perch fishing. We spent the next couple of hours catching countless numbers of white perch, most being too small to keep, but we did catch around a dozen for the cooler.

After that we headed back to the ramp and despite some minor boat problems we were off the water by 3:00pm. It was a fun day and I can't wait to get back out there!
