Weekly Mid-Atlantic Fishing Report! - 6/26/15

This weekend's weather doesn't look good at all, but over the past week we saw some good catches come in from all over so hopefully once this weather breaks everyone can get out fishing!

Offshore Ocean:

While the yellowfin action slowed down a little, the bigeye action improved even more! These big tuna are being caught up and down the line. First light and right at dusk are the best times to hook these big fish. Overnighters really increase your chances, however, we did hear of some fish being caught right in the middle of the day as well.

The mako fishing both during the day and at night was still very good. Boats are reporting catching multiple makos a trip (while only keeping one of course) as well as blue dogs, hammerheads and tiger sharks offshore.

Tile fishing was still very good this past week. Big goldens and bluelines were reported for those deep dropping in the canyons. I even saw some nice Snowy Grouper caught from boats deep dropping for tile.

Inshore Ocean:

Flounder fishing was a little up and down this past week. But those who pounded the offshore structure came back with nice catches of fish.

I also received good flounder fishing reports from up north towards CT, and RI.

Sea bass fishing was still good this past week. Big porgies were also caught in good numbers by the NY fleet and further north.

Some threshers are still around the DE, OCMD area, however, they are more than likely on their way out of the area. Multiple catches up and down the coast of NJ were reported this past week. And we heard of good catches of threshers off of NY and further north as well.

We also had reports of a couple of Cobia spotted and caught off of DE and OCMD. It is a good idea to have a rod rigged and ready to go with a bucktail or cobia jig just in case! Take a look around buoys, and floating debris inshore to see if any Cobia are hanging around!

Chesapeake Bay:

Schoolie stripers remained the main focus of anglers fishing the Chesapeake last week. Trolling, and chumming are both producing. Jigging and casting artificials is also producing some action on these rockfish. Live lining should pick up when more spot show up.

Remember the regulations changed this year. You may now keep 2 stripers over 20" and only 1 of those 2 can be over 28" per person.

Bottom fishing reports should start coming in, in better numbers from lower bay anglers as the perch, croakers, and spot become more prevalent.

Crabbing was ok this past week. I heard decent reports from Mid Bay rivers such as the Wye. Hopefully we see a better crabbing season this year as the last couple years have been tough!

Delaware Bay:

Flounder fishing in the bay was pretty good this past week. Fishing the lower bay reef sites has been the popular way to target these flatties.

Along with more flounder arriving we heard there are a lot of brown sharks around just like in years past. While these fish are fun to catch, they are tackle busters when they inhale your flounder rigs, and remember these sharks are protected so release any you catch.

Kingfish, croakers and sea trout are also being caught by those bottom fishing in the bay.

Freshwater:

I will be hitting a local to me pond tomorrow for the first time this year! I have been slacking on my freshwater fishing this year, but I am looking forward to getting out and trying out some of our Mid-Atlantic Sportsman Bass Jigs.

Tight Lines,

Dave
