North Carolina Bottom Fishing with Procastinator Sportfishing

Here is the full report from our trip last weekend!

Took a trip down to Beaufort NC last weekend to do some bottom fishing and jigging. Went out with Procastinator Sportfishing, Captain John Cawthern is the best. Puts you on a ton of fish.

We unfortunately were met with crappy weather. Winds out of the SW from 15-30mph both days. On Friday the wind laid down in the afternoon and it was a pretty decent weather day overall. On Saturday we were met with a stiff 15-20 mph breeze first thing in the morning and it just kept building throughout the day. On day 1 we fished in 100-120 feet of water and caught 240 pounds of Amberjacks, Triggerfish, Grouper, Vermilion Snapper, Sea Bass, Grunts and more. The highlight was finding a school of amberjacks we dropped jigs to and hooked up each drop. That is a ton of fun!

The 2nd day we only fished until 1:00 pm or so as the windy, rough weather got worse and worse. We stayed inshore some and put 150 pounds of Amberjacks, Triggerfish, Ringtail Porgies, Grunts and a couple sea bass in the box. We also added 1 keeper grouper as well and threw back 20+ red drum (redfish) which were all over the 27" slot limit to keep.

I highly recommend Captain John Cawthern of Procastinator Sportfishing for anyone looking for a "fill the freezer" type of trip! We'll be heading back down in May.
