Chesapeake Bay Striper Trolling Tip - "S" Curves

With Trophy Striper season opening in less than 24 hours I figured I'd share one of my favorite tips that can help you get more bites and put more fish in the boat.

The reason why planer boards are so popular when trolling on the Chesapeake is 1, it lets you troll a bunch of lines, but 2 and what I think is more important is planers get the lines away from the boat out of the prop wash and into "cleaner" water.

One thing I like to do when trolling for trophies is to troll in big "S" curves. When you troll in a straight line, all of your baits, even the ones on boards are all being pulled through the same water that the boat has gone directly over or almost directly over. To get your baits in "cleaner" water trolling in big wide "S" curves allows your planers to get out of the same water you trolled in and into less disturbed water.

Now it is not always a great idea to do this when the boat traffic is really heavy, but when you have the space give it a try, you will get more bites and put more fish in the boat.

Tight Lines,

Dave
