The 1st Annual Buck Barn Spring Turkey Calling Contest!

The 1st annual Buck Barn Spring Turkey Calling Contest will take place on Saturday April 14th, 2012. This event will be hosted by the South Jersey Shooting Club at their new Bangers Sport Shop, 840 Piney Hollow Road, Winslow, NJ 08095.

This event will feature turkey hunting seminars as well as the Buck Barn Spring Turkey Calling Contest.

Doors will open at 9:00am with the first seminar starting at 1:00pm.


The seminars will focus on topics such as: 
  • Secrets to hunting wild turkeys
  • Successful hunting of heavily-pressured gobblers
  • Conditioning your turkey calls (Bring your calls to the show!)
  •  
At 3:00 pm the Buck Barn Spring Turkey Calling Contest will get underway. The divisions for the contest are listed below: 
  • Youth Division (ages 5-13)
  • Intermediate Division (ages 14-17)
  • Adult Division
  • Adult Womens' Division (If there are enough contestants)
  • Friction Competition
  • Open Competition

Before the contests start, there will be a one-hour warm up, away from judges and audience. There will be trophies awarded for the winner and the runner-up in each division, and hunting-related prizes will be awarded to randomly-selected contestants throughout the contests.


Pre-registration (starts early next week & runs until April 13)
Adults: one division $10, 2 or more divisions $15 (total)
Youth: one division $6, 2 or more divisions $10 (total)
Day of event registration
Adults: $20 (total) for one or more divisions
Youth: $15 (total) for one or more divisions

Contestants should be prepared to imitate sounds made in Spring by wild turkey hens, such as: purrs, clucks, yelps, cutting, fly-down cackle, assembly yelps, tree yelps, etc.
A week before the contest, we’ll let registered contestants know exactly which calls will be required by the judges.

Bonus contests, open to all: Owl Hoot, Crow Call, Gobbling

There will be 5 judges. They will bring their score cards from the states of Florida, West Virginia, Montana, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

There will be free parking and food and soft drinks will be sold at the show.
